Owner Evaluations
As a foundation litter for the Tamaskan breed, my goal is to chronical the development and progression of the litter, based on owner evaluations of each puppy. These are NOT professional evaluations and may contain unintentional bias from the owner, but is not intended or requested to be "sugar coated."
Nezuko
Kaiza's Noble Nezuko
Weight: 59lbs
Height: 27"
2023 EVALUATION
GENERAL: In general, Nezuko is surprisingly low energy, she tires quickly and is typically calm. She is very affectionate and highly motivated making her relatively easy to train. She is a barker, and is stubborn about it. She will bark for attention, from people and dogs. She is submissive in nature and offers appeasement gestures readily. She loves belly rubs and will roll over immediately for one.
TRAINABILITY: Highly food motivated. Learns quickly and willingly offers behaviors for food.
DRIVE: Highly food driven, will follow you around for an hour if you gave her food once. Will offer tricks for even regular dog kibble. Good prey drive, has done some qualifying runs at precision coursing with UKC. We plan to continue pursuing titles in this avenue. Is interested in scents, would likely do well at scentwork and we plan to introduce her to barnhunt in the future.
STRANGERS: Initially aloof but warms up easily and goes on to enjoy attention and affection.
DOGS: A bit of a bully when first meeting but not aggressive. She is not particularly playful and is fairly low energy and continuous wrestling is not of interest to her and she gets annoyed if pushed.
KIDS: Loves kids, is very gentle and patient, enjoys playing but is careful around them.

Asuna
Kaiza's Ambitious Asuna
Weight: 70LB
2023 EVALUATION
GENERAL: Asuna is overall very high energy and forgets her manners in new exciting situations. She can play for hours, rest for 5 minutes and keep going. Even when she is ready to drop she will still keep going to get in the last tussle. She loves to wrestle but is not mean about it and doesn’t bite/drag and takes queues when the other dogs are done. She is submissive when corrected. Sometimes pees in excitement. Is not a barker, rarely makes noise. Sometimes chirps in her crate if she has to go out.
TRAINABILITY: highly food motivated but sometimes is distracted by new places/sounds/smells. Easy to train and learns quickly. Working on proofing commands with no hand signals currently. Can touch, sit, down, paw, spin, twist. Working on roll over.
DRIVE: high drive. Loves to learn new things. Loves to play.
STRANGERS: hasn’t met a stranger she doesn’t like.
DOGS: hasn’t met a dog she doesn’t like.
KIDS: hasn’t met a kid she doesn’t like but is sometimes too pushy. She’s not mouthy, but will spin her whole body all over them and possibly jump

Kiki
Kaiza's Sensitive Shouka
Weight:
2023 EVALUATION
GENERAL: Kiki (Kaiza's Sensitive Shouka) is a joy. She is less energetic than I expected, but has her daily zoomies where she's all over the place. She is wicked smart, very friendly, and loves everyone she meets. She is fearless except for water, makes us laugh all the time, and is very sensitive to when someone needs cheering up. She's beautiful and we get a lot of comments on her when she's out and about. We have dropped a small fortune on puzzle-type dog toys because if she gets bored, she's trouble with a capital T. She doesn't bark much at all, but will vocalize with hilarious noises when she's especially happy.
TRAINABILITY: Highly trainable! Holy cow. She does a ton of tricks, has gotten good at leave it and wait, and the dog trainer said yesterday that they may skip her straight to obedience 2 once she is old enough to be out of puppy classes. They think she'd make a good therapy dog. She still has some rough edges (off leash isn't an option because she will bolt to go greet people) but if you have a treat she'll do anything you ask. She is also great with her nose and we may do some nosework with her.
DRIVE: Medium to high prey drive. She chases the cat and will roughhouse with her, although to be fair the cat often instigates. She does chase bugs and has eaten quite a few flies and a couple of bees.
STRANGERS: Never met one. She loves people and is very friendly greeting them, she's gotten much better at not jumping on guests.
DOGS: Loves other dogs, but plays aggressively. That's the only time when she never seems to run out of energy.
KIDS: Great with kids! She loves them. Is much more gentle with kids than with adults.
2024 EVALUATION
Kiki is an absolute hilarious joy. She's way too smart for her own good, so we have to make sure she stays engaged. She's very sweet and loves people, especially kids. She's pretty good with our cat, too. Her favorite game is "find it" where we hide her toy and she goes looking for it. She has an impressive attention span, that's for sure. She uses buttons to communicate and we've trained her to pick up her toys, turn on and off lights, and a bunch of other stuff. We're hoping to have her go through therapy dog training as well. She's a beautiful dog and can look quite majestic, but it's hard to get a picture of her where she's not doing her goofy dog smile or doing something totally UN-majestic. We love her and are super happy with her temperament and health!

Kuma
Kaiza's Faithful Fushi
Weight: 59lbs
Height: 27"
2023 EVALUATION
GENERAL: Kuma is an energetic, lean bundle of fur. Despite being the smallest of the litter, he can easily hold his own in wrestling matches and doesnt hesitate to tell other dogs off. He is a wrestler and will bait dogs into playing by rolling on his back. He is a goofball and will chase his own tail as well as his feet.
TRAINABILITY: Kuma is highly food motivated and its one of the only things that gets him to stop moving and he will give you his undivided attention if you have food. He learns fairly quickly and will even take commands from my young daughter with ease.
DRIVE: He has a stronger drive than his sister, but took an extra moment to figure out precision coursing the first time. Once he got it, he did very well, doing several qualifying runs. We will be pursuing titles in this avenue going forward. His nose hardly ever leaves the ground and he more "stalks" than walks, with his head down closer to the ground, probably to sniff out any potential food items in the grass. He loves tennis balls and will fetch for a little bit but his toy drive is not particularly strong. His prey drive is nice for his breed and with his nose always down, I think he would also do well with scentwork and hope to start working on him with rats.
STRANGERS: This is the one place Kuma lacks a bit. He is aloof with strangers and will bark and doesnt particularly enjoy interacting with strangers, but does get over it with consistent presence, though he still doesnt seek out interaction from them, but will tolerate their presence without any additional barking.
DOGS: He is pushy with strange dogs, is not big on playing with them, but tolerates them after the initial greeting. With dogs he knows, he enjoys wrestling and can be rough, but only with the ones he knows will tolerate it. He is respectful of older dogs and is submissive around them, offering appeasement gestures constantly.
KIDS: He is great with kids, even kids he hasnt met previously. He is generally gentle and will take commands from kids without snatching treats.

Aldo the Apache
Kaiza's Eager Elric
Weight: 62lbs
2023 EVALUATION
GENERAL: Aldo is a very sweet and adventurous boy! He gives all the face kisses, and is so sassy and lectured you when you don’t feed him breakfast on time. He is a ball of energy, nothing slows this pup down! His favorite toy right now is a sheep horn.
TRAINABILITY: Aldo is very smart and quick to learn! He knows how to sit, lay down, stay, and to come here! He’s pretty good at drop it and leave it! We’re working on loose leash walking, and he’s doing okay, he gets distracted easily. He’s somewhat motivated by food. When we’re doing general commands he’s about it, but on walks, he does not have time for treats lol
DRIVE: prey drive is high in this one. Anything, squirrel, bunny, fly, grasshopper, he’s gonna get it. My favorite is the fly thing, if we get one in the house ( which is rare ) he hunts that sucker down and snatches out of the air and leaves it for me to clean up
STRANGERS: Aldo loves people! We are working to get him to sit to greet as he is a big old friendly jumper.
DOGS: absolutely loves other dogs! Will play with any pup he sees! Problem is not all pups want to play with him! But he’s very good at sitting and being patient waiting for them to check him out
KIDS: kids are his favorite as they give the most pets and the most treats! Aldo is the best friend to my 1 year old nephew Ollie! He’s so gentle with him, and makes sure he gets all the kisses, which my sister not the biggest fan of but hey, it happens! and if it makes Ollie laugh Im for it.
2024 EVALUATION
Aldo’s temperament is amazing! We sent him to doggy boarding school and now he is the best listener and is 100% off leash trained. We want to do more advanced training and our trainer actually recommended him for therapy dog training based on his loving and caring demeanor.
He is gentle and kind and loves kiddos and pretty much anyone really. But he can also hold his best with his two Belgian malinois girlfriends.
He still loves playing fetch with pine cones, and digging snow tunnels with his face! His favorite thing to do is snuggling mom and dad and giving us all the face kisses
We are excited to do the therapy training! Not excited to spend our free days off at the hospital but he’ll enjoy it and so will the patients.
They also recommended mountain search and rescue as he is naturally gifted sniffing and tracking. But idk if we’re ready to be mountain rescue. maybe next year!
He really is a wicked cool dog and we get ALOT of compliments

Atreyu
Kaiza's Keen Kaneki
Weight:
2023 EVALUATION
GENERAL: Atreyu is a sweet, busy, stubborn boy. His physical activity level actually isn't that high (our other dog wears him out first thing in the morning and he's low-key the rest of the day), but his need for mental stimulation is high and he is the epitome of the "looking for trouble, and if I can't find it, I'll create it" meme. Loves his people and greets me every morning with wiggles and happy whimpers. Always prefers to sit near or on you. Loves to dig and will sit and watch bugs for hours.
TRAINABILITY: If you have food? He will walk through fire for you. A little TOO enthusiastic at times and still needs some work with trying to jump ahead and anticipate commands or execute them calmly (knocked his crate over jumping into it too eagerly when I told him to go there for mealtime). So willing to work. Always interested and game for new things. I'm dying to try him on scentwork.
DRIVE: Prey drive is there but not strong. He will chase the cats if they run past him but if he catches up to them he just licks them and walks away. If they tell him off he listens, and if you have food, he ignores them. We're working on "leave it".
STRANGERS: Everyone is his long-lost best friend that he hasn't seen in ten years. A little rude, but he's getting better with it.
DOGS: Great with dogs. Loves to wrestle, gets the zoomies and trips over himself. Very vocal player, our yard sounds like a demon mosh pit in the mornings. Once they get to playing he can be rude, but he's very polite with dogs that don't want to play and gives them space and nice greetings. We have a minor problem with resource guarding in the house, but no problem with it outside for some reason. He only guards with dogs, I can take anything from him and he doesn't care. While we work on it, toys/bones/chewies are kennel and yard only and he's fine with it.
KIDS: The only kid he lives with is adult-sized and he's fine with her. He reacts to kids the same way he reacts to any other person, excited, friendly, a little pushy.

Storm
Kaiza's Humble Haku
Weight: 82lbs
2023 EVALUATION
He is a really great dog! He has a really funny attitude and constantly makes us laugh with his different moans and groans and howls, he’s not much of a barker but will intently sit at the front door watching everything that goes on. He is not big on chasing balls or toys that are thrown but he will run after a squirrel at any chance. He will listen to commands but gets bored with doing what he’s told unless something is in it for him, like a great treat
We have 2 kids so he always been great around them and any of their friends that come over, but don’t try to hug him because he doesn’t like it, he will let you know with a grumble sound or moan but he is always gentle. He is cautious with new adults that come into the house but warms up quickly and lays at their feet.
He has grown up with a Belgian Malinois female a few months older than him and their favorite thing to do is wrestle and chase each other. We also have a small Boston Terrier male who is 14 years old, initially Storm would resource guard his food only from our male Boston Terrier, never humans or our female dog, he has gotten over this entirely, I am not sure if it just happened with age and maturity or because we now leave food available at all times so he’s not afraid of going hungry.
When we first got him when he was difficult to house train, he is perfect now and never has any accidents inside. He doesn’t like to be left alone and he will still get mischievous and chew things if he knows you aren’t looking, so if we all leave the house we still have to crate him, I think he will also mature out of this and eventually he’ll be left to roam around when we are gone.
Storm isn’t a very energetic dog aside from a few bursts of energy he gets throughout the day when he wrestles with our other dog, he is content to lay around my husbands office and work with him for hours on end.
He sheds like crazy even with being groomed every couple months, but his coat is so beautiful so I don’t mind being covered in it
I have taken him everywhere dogs are allowed including tons of outdoor dining and many trips to all dog friendly shops and he is always well behaved in public, he is also a real conversation starter. Everyone who meets him always wants to know what he is, in public and crowds when he is being cautious he always wears his tail down and looks just like a wolf.
We love him so much and everyone who meets him wants to take him home, we are so glad he’s part of our family!
2024 EVALUATION
He is a super talkative dog, he howls and grumbles and makes just about every noise to get noticed
He’s a great dog, and really enjoys being outside in the yard watching birds and squirrels.
